Hello!

My name is Doug, and I am an artist and professional portrait photographer, specializing in boutique artistic portrait experiences for you, your family, or your business.

I launched Doug Mall Art & Photography to provide a boutique-type personalized service, to treat you to a tailored and immersive portrait experience that meets your needs. My wife Carrie assists me during our session, helping with setup and customer experience.  

What is my why?

Growing up, my parents were always taking pictures of the family, our trips, our special events.  They also would dig deep every year or two to get special professional family portraits done. A few years before Mom passed, we invested in a professional family portrait session to celebrate her 75th birthday.  We were very thankful that we had done this, as the portraits from that session were featured at her memorial service.  

My parents left behind their legacy of wall portraits, and also regular photos sorted in chronologically ordered photo albums and scrapbooks.  Mom also was into our family genealogy, and her research uncovered photos of ancestors we never had met, making their lives more real.  I have started restoring some of the older images to honor them.

There have been scientific studies that show that when young children are exposed to environments where actual printed pictures and portraits exist, they grow up more connected to their family, feeling like they belong in their community. That is a legacy I plan to hand down to my children and grandchildren.

So, getting back to what is my why? I believe that through photos, we are able to freeze special moments in time to go back and revisit the people and events, either in private, or by sharing them with our families.  And by existing in those pictures, we can leave a legacy for our family and future generations to get to know us.  And I would love to work with you to help you with that legacy.

Or as the cosplayer in me would say, "I'd like use my superpower to help you freeze and preserve your special moments in time..."

Why you should create your art with me

Over the past decade I have become comfortable behind the lens, and taken many photography classes to learn how to light, pose, and secure what a customer wants. I have earned my Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) and have received my Fellow of Photography honors from the Professional Photographers of North Carolina (PPNC).  What this means for you is that you can be assured I am qualified to work with you to deliver your portrait needs, and we can have FUN doing it as well!

We are based in Apex, North Carolina (the Raleigh area), but while most of my clients are in the area, I am not against destination photoshoots if that is your vision of a dream photo experience

Portrait session specifics:

Immersive photo sessions can run 2-4 hours, with multiple changes in wardrobe, background, etc. Because of this, I reserve my whole day so that I am focused on your portrait session. It can be done in my home studio, outdoors, or at your location.

Occasionally I will do less immersive photo sessions which last on average up to an hour.  I will try to book several of these in one day.  The trade-off is that you don't get the immersive experience.

Costs:  Photo session is $395, and photos start at $250 per image. I offer photo packages as well.  My average client will spend $2500 (or more) on their photos.
